A Love Letter from Incrementum

This season, we are rooting down into the practice of G R A T I T U D E.

It is equally our community and our connection to plant life that I am most grateful for in 2022. We recognize that plants can be a guide back to ourselves and to work with them as a modality of design and wellness with you has been our greatest joy. Incrementum, which literally translates to growth, began only 2 short years ago and is now well into its own life cycle where it has taken us into the sacred spaces of our incredible clients’ homes and into large office buildings seeking more life and greenery. We deeply respect and believe in the power of plants when they are brought into community spaces and when client’s allow us to really go crazy and be creative!

As business owners, Molly’s schedule and mine are demanding and our work intensive as we move quickly to produce new plant installs and maintain our client’s diversity of plant life, but it is this slowing down that has been so valuable to our well-being. It is our plants that can remind us when to be vulnerable and when to take a breath. Plants teach us the fragility of it all through their unique life cycles. They show us their incredible resilience and also their deepest sensitivities. They share with us creatively as expressed in their color, flowers, and form reminding us of our own creativity; inviting us to decorate and design our spaces with their greenery.

When we are willing to dig deep past the stunning foliage our plants' display for us, there is a relationship waiting to be had that can support our own growth. One of my greatest lessons this year has been to quiet my desire to keep filling my personal home with more plants—as you can imagine I have a mecca of greenery already. But sometimes less really is more. Instead, I have formed deeper connections to the plants I already have by studying their leaf structure, their unique variegation, and patterning while observing what elements support their growth the most. It is through this practice that I can align more closely with my own growth and needs.

Plants can calm our nervous systems, bring us back to nature’s cycles, and can inspire us through new leaf growth reminding us of the constant transformation we are undergoing. They can test us too, just like all good partnerships, causing us to pause and ask:
What am I doing wrong? I can’t seem to get this right! They challenge us to keep going deeper still, to stretch our thinking, and to solve problems with new approaches while we practice the art of listening.

Plants are highly sensitive to their environments, including air, humidity, light, sound and energy. Through plant care, we are reminded to check in with our own environments. Things that we may casually glance over are brought into full sight.
Am I overwatering or underwatering? Why might my plant be getting sick or not thriving in this particular room? Is my plant happy in the shared space it inhabits with the other green goddesses? Does it need more space, a new pot, or some fresh soil?

Now ask yourself:
Am I staying hydrated? How are my home and workspace supporting me? Why might I be getting sick? Am I giving myself enough nutrition to sustain my well-being? Do I need more space, a re-location, or a shift in my environment? It’s pretty incredible when you slow down and allow this relationship to blossom. What we have found is the reflection to help facilitate our most precious discoveries.

One of those discoveries is the gratitude and recognition of our valuable community members who are the ones who have connected us to so many of our clients. They really are the backbone of our company and huge contributors to our growth. We are so grateful for their time and energy even in life’s busiest moments to help support Incrementum. I am also grateful for our incredible sales reps who have helped us find and select amazing plants from around the U.S.

As we look towards next year, we are very excited to take on more plant care clients as well as expand our commercial plant installation program! If you know of any new companies, offices, or retail spaces that are opening up that would benefit from having our plant expertise and style, we would love to connect! We are very excited to bring on more support on our own team so we can show up and assist more clients with their plant dreams and needs.

I can’t wait to see you all in the new year and support all of your plant needs and dreams! And again, thank you so much to all of our community and clients, we could not keep growing without you—we would not be Incrementum without you.
